Akshaj Awasthi
Akshaj (they/he) is a DPhil student in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (Islamic Art and Architecture) at New College. Their research looks at architectural history within the social and political context of the Timurid and Shïbanid periods in early modern Transoxiana, Central Asia. They primarily work with sources in Persian, Chaghatay, and Ottoman. Akshaj’s research is funded by the Oxford-Nizami Ganjavi Scholarship for Central Asian history. Prior to his DPhil, he read for an MPhil in Islamic Art & Architecture as an Ertegun scholar.
Qianyi Zhang
Qianyi Zhang (he/him) is a DPhil History student working on the Chinese Labour Corps during the First World War. He is particularly interested in China in the First World War, British informal imperialism in China, and the global First World War.
Marielle Masolo
Marielle Masolo (she/her) is a DPhil student in the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at St. Antony's College. Her research explores the entangled histories of faith, medicine, and colonial power in the Belgian Congo during the early 20th century. Marielle is particularly interested in prophetic figures, such as Simon Kimbangu, and how they reimagined what it meant to heal amid pandemic and empire. Her research is funded by the Ertegun Graduate Scholarship.
